(…) Upon his departure, Aegeus told him to put up white sails when returning if he was successful in killing the Minotaur. However, when Theseus returned, he forgot these instructions. When Aegeus saw the black sails coming into Athens, he jumped into the sea and drowned, mistaken in his belief that his son had been slain. Henceforth, this sea was known as the Aegean Sea.
(…)  El Rey Egeo esperaba de pie día y noche en el cabo Sounion, frente al templo de Poseidón, la llegada de su hijo…A su vuelta a Atenas, Teseo olvidó izar una vela blanca que, de acuerdo a lo convenido, representaba su victoria sobre el Minotauro. Egeo, al ver una vela negra, creyó que su hijo había muerto y se arrojó desde una altura rocosa al inmenso mar, que desde entonces se conoce como Mar Egeo.
